Millions of Geese flock to Anchorage every year. In spite of that fact I'm climbing another of the Chugach 120. Rainbow Peak. I was tired, but I dealt with it like a champ.

JasonEson.com/shop Million inch duck link April 29th Josie and I made a scramble for the Wedge. Started at Glen Alps trailhead, bobbled down/up powerline pass trail. Cut to lookers left of valley early. Followed tracks through the dwarf hemlock forest and up into ship lake area. We cut across the ridge to gain access to the obvious gentle lump summit. The actual summit is somewhere on that ridg...

Looks like an awesome and gnarly sufferfest. Typical Alaska!
Great Tutorial here. And Funny. I was entertained.
Another great story here. Muchas gracias. Thanks for your thoughtfulness and feelingness and for sharing them here. Some nice skiing on display in this one in some rather heavy snow. You folks know the wet marine variety well there it seems.
Great song. Great video. Capturing magic here. Some fine technique through heinous snow. Sickness.
Yeah Jason. Nice work here. You captured something. I dug it. But what was it? Your thoughts on the deep ecological/ spiritual aspects of the Mountains and of the care, compassion and camaraderie they elicit in us when we hang with them - that shit was awesome. Keep it coming. You ever read Dolores LaChapelle’s DEEP POWDER SNOW? I could see you winding some of her thoughts into a piece like this. Just a thought. Keep up the storytelling. You’re good at it. Thanks again for putting this together and for sharing.
definitely better jet boating than jeeping
Loved the journey and introspection.
Good to know, i was planning to use insulation as a base
Love your videos man. I'm glad you recovered!
Has there been any foam compaction after a year's worth of use?
I think I ended up using that foam to insulate a shed. It’ll compact where the cross bars stick out past the plywood, but that seems to help snug it up. Ultimately it holds the weight of the camper no problem.
New backpack? Are those oakleys??
Fun video. As someone who has also stared through an office window to beautiful lines, I feel this.
Glad to see you back out on the slopes.
Thanks, you were the only econoline heater install I could find. Il will do mine same way.
Still running strong. The green fuel line has shit the bed on an older install. Seem to get maybe 16 months out of it before having to replace.
I enjoyed your vid; nice camerawork on the hike. I'm curious about the date you did this hike. I had the same rain experience on March 15 hiking near Lake Mead.
What would you say to hardshell kayakers considering grinding the straight ocean route from Dry Bay to Yakutat? Thought it might be an interesting and cost effective addition to our Tat trip.
You’d have to get out past the surf…it’s 60 something miles to yakatat bay. I wouldn’t want to do it in my creek boat, but depending on your comfort level and equipment anything is possible. Id personally call around to some of the guiding or expo companies and see if you could drop your gear for them to pick up and then just walk out. Probably cheaper than flying your own person out. Or if you want to perfect experience. Fly in fat bikes and fly out kayaks, then roll into town in style.
Wow, great #JohnHagen content!

Just moved here, and stumbled upon your video hoping to see if my knees can handle it. I’m going to try! Your brace looks like what I need, with the hinged flexion and all, did you purchase it “over the counter” or did it have to come from a doc? I’m excited to watch more pf your videos. (And I might be weird, but I like seeing the walk down also.)😊
🐛
Looks awesome! Need to get a raft I think.
Been wanting to fly this one. Might try for it this summer.
There are a few good launching spots, albeit rather rocky. Is there a pretty solid group of wing users in Anchorage?
@Jason-Eson yep! Arctic Air Walkers is the local paragliding group. Hatcher's Pass, flat top, Baldy, and Bird Ridge are all very popular spots.
Don´t eat poop.
Always good advice. How is corn season in Juneau?
Thanks for the alaskan glimpse, albeit one dimensional, keep going!
3 dimensional travel represented on a 2 dimensional screen?
I know all about the sunscreen bald spot, yes.
I guess I could just get a hat....still grieving the hair a bit I guess.
What a neat hike. Lots of elevation change over a short distance. Is any of the wild vegitation there edible or useful?
Hoping for a bumper crop of blueberries this year. Still too early though.
I'll take slushy soggy bottom bagels over ice any day.
Soggy Bagels are staple around here.
'I'd hate to wake up dead' 🤣🤣😂😂😂
Really take the joy out of the morning.
lookin good , walk on !
Walk walk walk
Thanks for the videos, cousin! Enjoy seeing Alaska from my flat couch in mildly bumpy Masaachusetts. I prefer the 7th generation laundry detergent, not too fragrancy. Yeah, downhill video not necessary, kinda boring. I need to join you out there some summer, enjoy the remainder of yours!
Come on up!
How about distance and elevation for the next one instead of the walk back down?
That requires planning, which is not my strong point. But I will try.
Totally with you on the indoor cat to outdoor cat transition. I've lost about 35 pounds and I have about 25 to go, and that last 25 is being super freaking stubborn, but that's 25 pounds of unnecessary stress on my joints and back while I'm snowboarding that can lead to injuries that I don't need, so it's gotta go!
How did you lose the first 35? How long did it take?
@@Jason-Eson Mainly diet. Cut out soda, juice, anything that was a processed carbohydrate (sugar). Also tried to cut out processed foods, and all fast foods. I found it easiest to go whole food, plant based since it required me to really think about food differently and think about what I ate rather than just grab what I was used to. Mountain Biking and back country also helped :P
@@Jason-Eson Oh, and it didn't take very long at first, just a couple months, the weight just melted off, but it kinda has been bouncing around since as I get a bit lazy with the diet or exercise from time to time.
Favorite laundry detergent: Tide 😆
"Snow melts fast around here." Yeah I guess with those super long days the snow doesn't stand a chance against all that solar radiation.
We've had a pretty cloudy and cold summer so far. Snow is holding on where the sun don't shine, but pretty surprising how fast it goes if you get a hot day.
'promo sm'
Yes thank you.
OK fine, I'm gonna go hike a peak here tomorrow.
Nice job!
Drive on down to Mammoth CA, we got plenty of sun and slush, gonna be riding the chairs here into July.
That is pretty tempting. Might have to dig deep into the saving account.
@@Jason-Eson Lots of BLM and Forest Service land around to camp on for free!
sweet,
You guys are my skinspiration
That's the nicest thing anyone has said to me in the last 13 hours.
How long is the ski season there? Seems like it's almost over given those conditions.
I think you could likely find snow into July if you were motivated enough. I don't think I'm motivated enough though.
This snow looks definately harder than the last ski video. Looks like a great area to ski in the colder parts of the year. Phenomenal views though, its amazing scenery there. Keep up the great content!
Thanks Mike, that area gets pretty wind hammered so it is hit or miss for snow during the winter. Seems like they had a good season though. It was bad snow in the morning, but the second run was good as things warmed and softened up a bit.
peace and understanding, too you and all .
Thanks Doug!
u look great, what a day !
Starting to feel great. It was a pretty rough winter with all the knee surgery. Also missed Beth. But getting stronger every day now.
Are there different kinds of snowfall/snowpack? Does it sound or react different? I'd bet there are some cool sciency style tidbits that you could share with us. What kind of sun protection do you need while out there? looks like the risk of sunburn would be great with all the reflection off the snow.
Great Questions!.....So much snow science, but as soon I talk about it my analytics take a dive! That snow was isothermal refreeze crust. East to travel on, but not great to ski on...until around 3 pm, then it'll all turn to mush and you sink up to your ears. Sun screen...I try to stay covered up and just use the highest spf I can find. Kinda like Florida in Alaska.
@@Jason-Eson What about a quick blurb about "ski lesson of the day" or something like that, slip some fun educational content in there too. Don't dwell on it, but throw it in there as a bonus.
That was the loudest powder I've heard in a while.
Oh yeah. Eat your heart out Utah.
Duck link?
jasoneson.com/shop 15 miles of duck
That powder looked FRESH.
Are you from Florida?
@@Jason-Eson Yes. My familiarity with skiing snow comes from the slush of Sugar Mountain in the month of March.
@@copyjockeynk haha. Well this snow is much fresher than sugar mountain slush. Pretty lack luster by AK standards though. When was the last time you went Skiing?
@@Jason-Eson 2022, March. Never seen real powder.

How’s both of your meniscus? I’m a 21 college athlete tear both meniscus but not as crazy as yours. Would you recommend to get surgery on both ?
I'd talk to a PT first. Depends how bad they are. Both mine were torn for years and I seemed to get around okay. My stronger side healed up in about 2 months and is way better than it's been in years. My weaker side is 4 months out and still kinda tender. Much longer recovery than was expected..But at this point it is doing better than before the surgery. I think the advice I can give is just give yourself more time and grace than you think you'll need.
